Text us a Question or Comment!
In this week’s episode of We Watch TV, Hope and Daniel are back with reactions to Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2, Part 2. The hosts then discuss their thoughts on what they’ve seen so far of Peacemaker season 1, another great James Gunn DC Comics production. Conversations continue with the We Watch TV Summer I Turned Vulcan series starting off with the latest (and possibly the best?) episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds yet. Hope then explains why episode 9, season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty was more essential to the plot than people think. Hope and Daniel wrap things up by talking the Bachelor in Paradise finale before giving their predictions on who will win the coveted mirror ball trophy on this season of Dancing with the Stars!

Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday. I was
SPEAKER_01:going to start off singing. That boy is corrupt. Yes, I'm talking about your baby.
SPEAKER_00:Hey everybody and welcome to We Watch TV. It is the podcast about the TV that we watch. I am Daniel. She is Hope. This is episode 116. Yes, it is Wednesday. It is Wednesday. Yes, we are talking about Wednesday. And we
SPEAKER_01:totally did this on purpose.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, right. We also posted on Wednesday last week. We're now just a day behind. We'll do that for a couple months and then we'll get a day behind and it'll be on Thursday. And then we'll just keep doing that and eventually we'll roll back around to posting on Tuesday
SPEAKER_01:again. Dude, you should have been like, we planned this to be on Wednesday because we were like, We're talking about Wednesday.
SPEAKER_00:I don't want to lie to our faithful listeners.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. Well, speaking about days of the week, you were like, what does FNL mean in my show notes? Friday Night Lights, also known as high school football, also known as the greatest TV show of all time. I'm actually, oh my gosh, I'm actually wearing, also planned, a Friday Night's t-shirt. Read my shirt.
SPEAKER_00:Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
SPEAKER_01:From Coach Eric Taylor. Do you know they're making another Friday Night Lights? They're doing a reboot. Great. But Riggins, Connie Britton, who played Tammy Taylor, and Eric Taylor, the three of them say they're not going to be in it, so I don't know what it's going to be about. Texas forever.
SPEAKER_00:There was a point in there somewhere.
SPEAKER_01:There was a point. We went to our first high school football game in more than a decade. Probably more like 20 years. Over 20 years, yeah. It's been a long time. We went to see our nephews march in the marching band. They now go to my high school. So we went to a game. I have not been to a game since I was in high school. I think I was briefly at a game my freshman year. freshman year of college because like you were there with us you barely remember this remember we dropped one of my friends off because she had to crown the outgoing homecoming queen so we like literally dropped her off pulled up stayed for like five minutes and left so i don't i don't count that as like a game experience because i didn't watch anything and i got to go see the track that i spent many many years at and practice meets you ran on that track before yeah that's good times um so we were mostly there for the bands and they did a great job and to show my my continued supports of my former high school and our nephews I dusted off an old little number my senior class t-shirts it's like this red and white tie-dye t-shirt dusted off that little number white and you know I washed it of course and just pull it out of an old box of clothes to wear for the game and I was trying to decide like what type of old shirts I wanted to wear and I the one that I mostly wanted no idea where it is it's one of my old clothes country shirts but I'm going through some of my shirts and I find one that I think is going to work and it's like from I don't think you guys were at this meet but it was the St. Joseph's Invitational so it had for track and it had PHS on it the track shoe it had like the school colors the red and white it was super cute and I was like well this should work so then I flip it over to the back side the back of the t-shirt says since you're behind how is mine and I don't think I should be wearing that shirt at this age nor do I think I should have been wearing that shirt probably when I was 17 with that type of writing on it are you glad I didn't choose to wear that shirt for the evening
SPEAKER_00:yeah it's such mockery honestly like I don't it's just not the
SPEAKER_01:and it's like look at my butt yeah besides the mocking
SPEAKER_00:it's also making fun of people for being behind you in a run
SPEAKER_01:they were like sold like at the meet like they sold them like
SPEAKER_00:we did not make this like you said I wasn't at that meet but I remember being track meets and cross country meets in high school where t-shirts with like those kind of things were on the backs
SPEAKER_01:why was this allowed it was the
SPEAKER_00:90s it was the early 2000s it was a different time
SPEAKER_01:the other shirt that I found that I opted not to go with because I wanted to wear more of a red collar now I did know this one it was one of my track shirts also for my senior year and the back of it had Eminem lyrics on it that was my idea as I was track captain but I'm like why did the adults approve this they're not like bad Eminem lyrics you know that you better lose yourself in the moment you own it but we put you better lose yourself in the running so I was like I can't have a shirt that talks about my butt or Eminem lyrics so
SPEAKER_00:we're going with the senior class shirt that's just bad
SPEAKER_01:do you have any vintage shirts from your high school era that you would ever bust out
SPEAKER_00:I would not be able to fit in any of my shirts from
SPEAKER_01:high school got it
SPEAKER_00:I was yes I was as tall as I am now but I was and you met me back then the lankiest like skinny runner guy you can imagine you
SPEAKER_01:weren't like this super like frail runner man though you were skinny but you weren't like like some of the like real like flimsy you didn't look like a piece of paper you just look like a normal skinny I
SPEAKER_00:still couldn't fit any of those t-shirts I guarantee it
SPEAKER_01:anyway I had to show the boys I was like this shirt's like from when I was in high school it's vintage
SPEAKER_00:older than they were
SPEAKER_01:but it was fun watching high school football it was more fun watching the band that's why we were there But like, obviously we're going to watch a little bit of the game. And I forgot that in high school football, you play, you can play both defense and offense. And I was like, these same kids have been on the field the entire time. You're like, Oh, that's because they do that in high school. Like I kept hearing the same name for my school and the same name for the opponent. And I'm like, are they getting any rest?
SPEAKER_00:I know. And I mean, there's nothing preventing them from, there's no rule. You can't do that in college or pros either. It's just, you don't see it as much as in high school.
SPEAKER_01:I literally thought it was a rule. I didn't. And then didn't you point out to me the Heisman winner or something from last
SPEAKER_00:year? I think the Heisman winner from last year from Colorado, he played both sides. All right.
SPEAKER_01:I did not know that.
SPEAKER_00:Speaking of college ball.
SPEAKER_01:No, we're not talking about college ball.
SPEAKER_00:Okay. Speaking of professional ball. The NFL started. Okay.
SPEAKER_01:And we both have very differing views. I am all about the kickers because give Boswell a raise for the Pittsburgh Steelers because my man's made like what 60 his career high they said it could have been like 65 yards and that kind of sealed the deal for the Steelers the Steelers decided just not make it a complete and total you know bust of a football weekend for me and they came through the same cannot be said for the Cleveland Browns I think the Browns minus your kicker look pretty good though I think Flacco I think it's weird when I see him in a Browns jersey But I think it really was just they browned it up. That's just what the
SPEAKER_00:Browns do. Yeah, you're right. They didn't look as bad as maybe you would think, but they lost in a Cleveland Browns way. Yeah, by an extra point being missed.
SPEAKER_01:So are you– you know what I'm for, Daniel? Whatever's convenient to me. I know. And in my case, the kicking helped. I know that. What do you propose we do then? No kicking.
SPEAKER_00:No kicking. Get rid of it. No extra points. No, no, no. No, no, no. You can go for an extra point. An extra point now becomes a regular offensive play from the one-yard line, and a two-point conversion is the same as it is now, which is like at the five. So no field goals. No field goals.
SPEAKER_01:So do you just go for it on fourth every time?
SPEAKER_00:No punting. So you just go for it. So everybody thinks
SPEAKER_01:football's boring and
SPEAKER_00:loves scoring. Yeah, and if you don't get it, if you don't get it on fourth down, the other team gets the ball where it's at, just like if you go for it on fourth down now. I
SPEAKER_01:feel like the Steelers would have lost so many games without
SPEAKER_00:kicking. And then kickoffs are easy. You just put the ball at 25
SPEAKER_01:do you remember I've got because it is a certain week coming up I don't think it's going to go well for my team but I have to bring this up do you remember when a certain school in Pittsburgh their kicker's last name was like Blewett
SPEAKER_00:oh yeah I thought we weren't talking about college
SPEAKER_01:I had to bring that up because it was relevant to the conversation no we're not talking about college because nothing happened out of the ordinary but the NFL's back I don't know what else to say about it other than you were influenced to go buy pizza like Daniel gets like we have like split screen guys so we have the Browns game up we have the Steelers game up and we saw like 50 commercials for Little Caesars in the game we're not even at halftime and Daniel's like I've got to go get pizza right now and so he left and went and brought home a lunch special you got yourself two lunch specials
SPEAKER_00:well I knew you were going to want some I
SPEAKER_01:just wanted a bite
SPEAKER_00:but I didn't want to share any of mine so I got two so I had one complete lunch special for me and one that we could both pick off of if you're not familiar with the Little Caesars lunch special it's just like four slices of their deep dish with them crispy edges it's weird for me that you
SPEAKER_01:like that because you're typically like anti deep dish
SPEAKER_00:yeah I am but I think that's Detroit that's Detroit style deep dish not Chicago style
SPEAKER_01:pizza pizza
SPEAKER_00:listen okay do not besmirch the good name of Little Caesars I'm here to say right Right now, of all the mid-range pizza places, your Domino's, your Pizza Hut's, maybe even your Papa John's, I like Little Caesar's best. And you know why?
SPEAKER_01:Consistent.
SPEAKER_00:It's consistent. It's cheap. I know exactly what I'm getting, and it is that every single time I get it. I can spend$20 more to go to Papa John's or Pizza Hut, and I'm flipping a coin because it might be good, but it might be the best. The worst pizza you've ever had in your entire life. You may be swimming in a pool of sauce, but at Little Caesars, I go in and I put down$5.99 for a hot and ready, and you know what I get? The same hot and ready every single time. So come at me.
SPEAKER_01:We didn't eat at Papa John's for almost a year because our last two experiences, our pizza was not cooked all the way through. It was literally dough in the center.
SPEAKER_00:Correct.
SPEAKER_01:So I will say that you are correct on that.
SPEAKER_00:And Pizza Hut's just trash, period. So is Domino's.
SPEAKER_01:All right.
SPEAKER_00:Now, I'm not here to have a conversation about other non-fat, like, I'm talking about this class of pizza place. There are better pizzas than Little Caesars. I'm not crazy. You know what my
SPEAKER_01:favorite pizza is? It's a local place, and it's a place that I'm not friends with at the moment, but Avalanche Pizza.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Avalanche is great.
SPEAKER_01:I really have nothing against Athens, people, so it's fine. That's the best pizza, though. But you're not talking about local shops.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I'm not talking about local shops. I'm not talking about higher end places or whatever. I'm talking about your average nationwide pizza chain. Little Caesars is the best. I don't care. You will never convince me otherwise. I
SPEAKER_01:think they're like the official pizza of the NFL.
SPEAKER_00:They are, that too.
SPEAKER_01:Anyway, anything else to say about the NFL?
SPEAKER_00:No. Thank you for reminding me that Little Caesars has a lunch special and I can go get some delicious, cheap and affordable pizza.
SPEAKER_01:We complain about commercials but one could say they worked in this instance.
SPEAKER_00:I suppose.
SPEAKER_01:All right, so we have some announcements before we get into show discussion. At the time of this recording, Only Murders in the Building Season 5 has dropped the first three episodes. I didn't know we were getting the first three episodes. So, yeah, we'll have our thoughts on that probably in our... I don't know if we might be back next week. We might not.
SPEAKER_00:Could be Tuesday. Could be Wednesday. Could be Thursday. You don't know. We're keeping you guessing.
SPEAKER_01:We're going to keep you on your toes. So Wednesday, Wednesday, Season 2, Part 2 dropped on Wednesday, September 3rd. Terrible day to drop that, in my opinion. I know we only waited like a month, but I felt like they hardly did any promos for it.
SPEAKER_00:Drop it the day before the NFL season starts back up officially. Like, come on.
SPEAKER_01:I'm not going to. I feel like tons of Wednesday watchers might not also be NFL watchers, but you never know. You never know. It just seems like we've got the Summer I Turn Pretty going on. Like, that's kind of... Star
SPEAKER_00:Trek Strange New World.
SPEAKER_01:Well, that's not a Wednesday, but it just seemed like they should have either. Again, I totally stand by what we said, and if you haven't listened to our Wednesday part one, I think what the episode's literally called Wednesday part one back in August, they should have just given the season at once. I think if you're not going to give the season at once or do what Only Murders is doing and drop the first couple episodes, then I hate to say it, you might as well go with the weekly release because people are going to continue talking about your show each week if you do that and it just seemed like like when you only have four episodes to watch it just it goes by way too quickly and we did stretch it out over the course of the weekend so
SPEAKER_00:viewership by the way before we get into the show itself i saw um a post
SPEAKER_01:is it down
SPEAKER_00:viewership's down 40 from part one to part two over the same time frame when they came out so i mean that proves it right that shows it out right there
SPEAKER_01:they were like is wednesday back this week and i'm like apparently like netflix really isn't i mean maybe it's because they already have season 3 confirmed that they're making it so maybe that's why they're not pushing it I'm not sure it just they should have just done it why just just give it to especially you know you're only waiting that month like just give it to us all at once all right so guys as you guys know um or if you don't know huh we are a spoiler focused podcast when we do talk about the shows that we have watched so this is your warning to go ahead and click to the next chapter if you have not finished wednesday part two yet if you do not care and you just want to listen to the soothing sounds of our voices go ahead and listen or like i said skip to the next chapter um i thought part two i'm gonna kick it off so i'm already yapping i thought part two was better than part one what did you think
SPEAKER_00:um yes but also part one part two was better than part one but i'll just go ahead and say part season two as a whole now that we've seen all of it was not as good as season one
SPEAKER_01:yeah I agree with that that's not what I was talking about though yeah yeah in terms and I feel like why I enjoyed the second part more there's a couple reasons one we get principal Weems back she is Brienne of Tarth the actress's name is just completely missing my mind right now is her name like Christine in real life I don't
SPEAKER_00:know something like that Brienne of Tarth this is a good it's a good podcast we're great it's
SPEAKER_01:great that we're a TV podcast and we don't know the names of the actors but um i felt like she's back as wednesday's spirit guide so not only can wednesday see her but morticia can also see her because they share that same power and just instantly her on screen just it brings just that additional like i don't know depth to an episode humor even mixed with some like emotional weight to it like all in one and she's just a really good actress who i whose name i should know look her name up right now while i keep yapping um and then also i felt like Like, while they did have still kind of the side, I would call the sirens plot with Bianca the bee plot. We did have that woven in, but I think, like, we already were, like, deep into the mystery with what was going on. And it felt like, you know, we had the first couple episodes where they had, like, the camping trip and just some kind of mess around. Like, while we did have a Freaky Friday type mess around in this, it was all very more relevant to the plot. So we were already kind of, like, deep into the plot of the story, if that makes sense. Do you have her name?
SPEAKER_00:Gwendolyn Christie.
SPEAKER_01:Christie. seeing Christy that's probably where I was getting that from Gwendolyn Christy makes sense but yeah I feel like we were already kind of like into the heart of the mystery so if I had been watching this like all in one set like eight episodes at once I would have liked the back half better and I think it honestly would have flowed better and people would be remembering it better because they get it they get it all at once and I don't think people would have been like wow nothing happened very much in those first four episodes if they had just given them us all at once so that's that's another reason why I liked the second part better what about you
SPEAKER_00:yeah it flowed better i do like they didn't tie so there were two kind of competing plot lines yeah they sort of taught they tied them together in the end and like the weakest little bow they possibly could imagine with the sirens and everything because it's like it kind of mattered but it didn't really matter i
SPEAKER_01:feel like we could have used a couple more episodes like this could have been 10 episodes to flesh that out and make it matter more
SPEAKER_00:Maybe. I don't know. Even from part one, we looked at each other and said, if they're setting up Steve Buscemi's character to be a bad guy, it sucks and we hate it. It's so obvious. And it sucked and we hated it. There was nothing there and we wasted an actor in Steve Buscemi because he didn't really get to do anything memorable. He was just a weaselly guy out to make money. scamming people and I don't know the only it seems like the only reason they got they had that whole storyline was to bring in Morticia's mother so that we could eventually wind our way to the very ending sizzler of season two and it just was really like ham-fisted and I didn't like it
SPEAKER_01:it was just so like a lot of the villains this season I felt were fairly obvious who the villains were going to be like he and I don't even know would you call him like a major villain because he still really doesn't care about like like the Wednesday the plot against the Addams Family other than getting their money so part of my original prediction was correct he was just an opportunist he just wanted to make money so we got to learn a little bit more that he's like he is actually like the OG cult leader of the Sirens and I think Bianca is a great character and I felt like she could have been utilized more with that core group instead of kind of having that storyline away and I would have enjoyed that better
SPEAKER_00:wasn't her storyline in season one basically people taking advantage of her powers to do bad and then like for that character I would really like to see them come up with a second story that she could be told around her for the next season because it just seems like she got
SPEAKER_01:she's a good character
SPEAKER_00:she's a good character but the same things just keep happening to her over and over and over
SPEAKER_01:I actually thought and I was a little thrown off by it I thought that they were maybe the actors just have a good chemistry but her and Ajax Enid's ex like he kind of found out was helping her and I thought they were like setting them up to be like romantic but I think Ajax still likes Enid what do you think
SPEAKER_00:I think it's open to season three I still think there could be something there
SPEAKER_01:I felt some chemistry
SPEAKER_00:I felt like Ajax and Enid's relationship with choosing to be friends at the end I feel like that's kind of a for me it felt like a finality of okay we're gonna be friends is what I felt
SPEAKER_01:see I didn't feel that at all I felt like he still sort of likes her and then I think she kind of realized like oh I really screwed this up and might be like into him now
SPEAKER_00:I did not get that
SPEAKER_01:But the main ship of the show is– I still– I am going to clown, put the clown makeup on Tyler and Wednesday. I like them in season one. And I was like– I figured out he was like the hide early in season one too. And I think that– I think they might actually like give him a little bit of redemption in season three. Maybe I'm just clowning. Let's see. Multiple times he could have killed her. She could have killed him. And they didn't. He still brings her dead flowers because– because he knows she's allergic to colors he in that very last scene she's like he she has an opportunity to kill him he even says just like kill me to get me out of the situation which will explain that here in a few minutes but she just cuts his little handcuffs off him so he can get off the table and he's like why and she's like I missed and kind of had this like Wednesday had this like a little look so we have him his like he's going out to see because obviously okay let's just kick it off the woman in the mental hospital that was Tyler's mom I felt like that was fairly obvious and she does she she off herself and then or no she she does
SPEAKER_00:yeah she sacrificed she's fighting him and she sacrifices herself
SPEAKER_01:she basically she was okay so we're gonna get to that here in a few minutes because there's a lot going on that ties with Tyler's mom and slurp and all that but Tyler at the end he does make it up out of this season and he is at a grave site of his mother which we'll get into but Capri Mrs. Capri is that her name the music teacher another maybe villain that was extremely obvious and I was hoping they would just make her kind of a weird lady we find out a little more about her that she also had a what a hide boyfriend and then she says at the end that her dad was a hide she's a werewolf and she's like I want you to come be like in basically a support group with me do you think she's gonna be full-blown villain and try to be his new master or do you think maybe control him or do you think maybe she really is not bad and she really wants to form a support group like what do you think I think
SPEAKER_00:I hope it is the latter and I hope that they actually go that way they kind of left it ambiguous on purpose to you know drive excitement for mystery for what could be next season but I really do hope it is actually the support group and they're actually wanting to try she's probably gonna be evil but she's probably gonna be because she's a redhead
SPEAKER_01:yeah Tim Burton doesn't like redheads very much
SPEAKER_00:The whole family thing with that is easy. Okay. Tyler's mom is a hide. Yes. And Tyler's mom has a brother that we didn't know about until this season. And it turns out it was Slurp. Isaac. All along. Who is actually Isaac. And he's the guy that we heard the ghost story in the beginning of the season about how he was trying to do some... Pugsley brings him back to life. Yeah. Pugsley brings him back to life. He eats brains. He eats brains, which slowly turns him back into a regular human. He's also a Victor Frankenstein type... And can I just say, though,
SPEAKER_01:careful, Isaac. I might fall in love with you here. The actor is so
SPEAKER_00:cute. What murder. We find out that Gomez and Morticia knew him in school. He was friends with Gomez. He took advantage of Gomez to use his electric ability to try and remove the hide from his sister, which didn't work out because Morticia came in at the last moment.
SPEAKER_01:Well, it was going to basically kill Gomez. And Gomez doesn't have that power. anymore I think that'll be a plot point in season 3 I think Gomez might get it back but he and Pugsley both have that like kind of electric power so it was going to kill him that's why Morticia went
SPEAKER_00:in and did that so now we so now fast forward there was an explosion fast forward yes explosion he ends up dead they bought Morticia and Gomez bury him fast forward 30 years here we are doing the same thing with the kids and oh yeah and by the way Isaac Knight is the body that thing belongs to
SPEAKER_01:and who called that in season one that was me I'm getting my edge back people well they had a lot of focus on Thane and like feeling like like what am I like who do I belong with and I remember like people were like what if he belongs to like the zombie I thought it was really sad that like Slurp Isaac didn't even have any like feelings towards Pugsley Pugsley just wanted a friend and I thought he'd at least be nice to him and he was just like nope I'm gonna catch you and take your power just like I did your daddy and that's what why Tyler and his mom had that conflict at the end was they had Tyler strapped down on that table and Pugsley was going to use the his electric powers to remove the hide from Tyler and Tyler is like no I don't want the hide removed from me and then when Wednesday shows up to kind of solve everything that's when she cuts the cuts off Tyler and he gets out of there and then the mom goes after him and I think she realizes like because she was she was already dying that's why they weren't going to use Pugsley's power to get the hide out of her like she was already coughing up blood too late for me and I think she realized like wow my kid's a monster and she they were fighting on like kind of the tower outside of Nevermore the school and she fell backwards and basically like impaled herself so we know mommy dearest is gone I would like to see Tyler get some type of redemption but maybe it's just because I'm clowning for the ship I don't know what do you think do you I think they still like each other
SPEAKER_00:sure I don't it's
SPEAKER_01:Wednesday she's into it she could have killed him. She did it.
SPEAKER_00:I agree. I don't disagree with you. I do think like for me I'm not like the shipping going on around is fine but I don't know that I'm interested in a ship for Wednesday in particular. Also we do need to cover Enid's story wrap up real quick. She found out she might be an alpha which means that if she transforms into a werewolf under a full moon that she could just get stuck that way and then she has to end up transforming under a full moon to save Wednesday from where she was buried alive and then she runs away and so at the very end of the season I'm sorry the almost last stinger of the season was Wednesday and Fester driving off to go try and catch Enid and potentially save her and turn her
SPEAKER_01:back basically they had buried Isaac and Mommy Dearest had buried Wednesday deep into the ground and it was the ground our little Agnes who we love now by the away Wednesday's former stalker and now I think she's also trying to take on Ian's personality but I think she's just she wants to be part of the little girly crew and I feel like she's a cute little sister edition so hopefully not an evil redhead I don't want I don't think I don't think she's made I think her parents there was a drop a throwaway line about Agnes's parents one of them like being a normie or something I feel like that could be villainous but I think I think Agnes just wants to be friends with Wednesday and Enid so Enid comes to get or excuse me Agnes comes to get Enid out of the loopy cages where that she was supposed to be to not be stuck but our girl Enid needs to save her bestie and turns and yeah so when Wednesday Wednesday's face when she looked at Enid and was like Enid like you could tell she was like touched but also what have you done and I feel like that's a tribute to Jenna Ortega's acting because it's just like all in the eyes the subtle facial expressions that she does um now
SPEAKER_00:all right so all of that said then we get to the final stinger on in the season, which we find out that, and both of us have called this, Aunt Ophelia is not actually dead.
SPEAKER_01:She's alive,
SPEAKER_00:but she's not Lady Gaga. And she's being kept under lock and key at Grandma's house.
SPEAKER_01:Yes. So we all thought, and by we, I mean a lot of the fandom, thought when it was announced that Lady Gaga was going to be in part two, that she would be Ophelia, because Ophelia's blonde in the comics. We thought, of course you're going to bring in Lady Gaga, make her play someone weird. Instead, it seemed like she was in a... she was like a ghost that Wednesday contacted from beyond the grave Mrs. Rotwood and she owns the cottage that Morticia and Gomez are staying in while they're at the Nevermore kind of campus I think that they will probably do a little bit more with Rotwood because I think she definitely has a past with grandma that hasn't been fully unraveled yet they might not but I was kind of like it's clear to us that they have not cast an actress for Ophelia oh yeah we do not see the back of or we do not see the front of Ophelia's head we only only see the back of her head her blonde hair and what does it say like Wednesday must die or kill Wednesday or something like
SPEAKER_02:that
SPEAKER_01:now I guess there was a character this is on tick tock in season one that had given Wednesday a book and people are in like I think he ended up dying in season one I don't have any memory of this probably because season one was so long ago so I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch that but a lot of people are speculating that that is actually Ophelia's son so we're gonna have to go back in and maybe rewatch that you don't have any memory of it
SPEAKER_00:you can go back and rewatch and let me know
SPEAKER_01:I'll fill you in I'll give you the cliff notes we knew we caught it when like Ophelia was not showing up and Lady Gaga wasn't Ophelia we're like she's gonna show up that's gonna be the sizzle and I think that grandma like do we I don't know grandma has a lot of ill intentions because she's clearly locking her up down there but she was kind of insistent about Wednesday coming to live with her in the summer do you think she wanted to bring her there because she knew Ophelia was there and there's something nefarious going on or do you think Wednesday would have never even known that like what's the deal there no
SPEAKER_00:I don't I don't think she's I think it's she's just trying to hurt Morticia by peeling her daughter away from her so you don't think it had anything
SPEAKER_01:to do with Ophelia being locked in that basement writing like stuff because I'm sure that grandma's seen that but
SPEAKER_00:now the writers could could go ahead and make season three and make me seem foolish but I do not believe as written and shown season two that she had any Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:child coded in many ways and like that dynamic and I felt like Wednesday or Morticia like for as weird as the Addams family could be like they that's just so normal with a lot of mother-daughter relationships
SPEAKER_00:I do want to shout out there was a bright point I know I'm sounding very full of woe over this yeah we got caught out by the way for part one
SPEAKER_01:someone's like it seemed like you and Daniel hated the whole show and I was like no we really liked it and they were like well you guys complained a lot when you talked about So I have to put that in there.
SPEAKER_00:So I hear you and I want to say a bright point. The episode in part two when Enid and Wednesday switch bodies. The Freaky Friday. The Freaky Friday episode was really entertaining. I thought that both actors did a phenomenal job of being the other person but in their own body. So I thought that was really fun and really interesting. I think I saw some people online that did not like that but I thought it was good. But it was a
SPEAKER_01:mess. episode that also had plot relevance because they were kind of at odds and they needed to understand each other what was going on and we also were able to get more information during that episode I thought it was it was so good I had you pause it and I'm like are they voice dubbing like is that like are the actors using their their voices no that would like Jenna Ortega both of them did great yeah but like it was just it's so weird because I've just seen Jenna Ortega it's like unless you revert it back to like Disney kid but like she she was fantastic the actors like you said was fantastic so good to the point like I asked you I think twice I'm like are they like voice dubbing each other I thought that was good but like it was it wasn't your typical mess around like they had the funny parts like oh Wednesday really is allergic to colors but it was it served relevance it moved the plot forward I think like the only Mike my main beef of this season is not necessarily with the show itself it's with Netflix the way they rolled it out so I still really enjoyed it I think that we could have used a couple more episodes because the whole sirens plot that could have been another plot of the season I'm not entirely sure either with the plot from the first one about like the mental hospital and like who was controlling the Ravens I'm still not sure it was actually that woman
SPEAKER_00:yeah they just kind of dropped that plot like
SPEAKER_01:dropped it like a bad
SPEAKER_00:yeah just like really out of nowhere it just kind of like oh this Raven girl who's controlling the Ravens murdered people like it's just kind of gone that was like
SPEAKER_01:hopefully they circle back to that a little bit maybe they will with some stuff going down with Ophelia but yeah I think the whole sirens
SPEAKER_00:thing well no wait didn't Isaac eat her
SPEAKER_01:yeah Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So I don't think they're circling back.
SPEAKER_01:No, I mean the whole plot with the mental. Okay, you and I are not talking about the same thing.
SPEAKER_02:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:I think there's other people that were controlling the Ravens besides that woman. I felt that that was very easy. I don't think she was the sole person that was doing that unless it really was just a throwaway. And I think there's other stuff that happened in that mental hospital that they could circle back to with Ophelia. I
SPEAKER_00:think they will circle back to it. I don't know. So
SPEAKER_01:you think that woman
SPEAKER_00:was the sole person? They didn't give us any indication in the second half of the season that there was anything else going on there. Isaac shows up, eats her brain, and she's gone. That's why a lot of people
SPEAKER_01:think it wasn't just that woman. They think other people were involved. Are you understanding
SPEAKER_00:what I'm saying? Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I will note that I do think we saw that raven, the one with the weird eye, one more time at the very last show. I think it flew at the camera. So maybe there is some sunlight there in what you're saying. I don't see
SPEAKER_01:I didn't notice that but I was like a lot of people think that it was just that was all like neatly cleaned up I think if anything we're gonna get flashbacks with Ophelia's time of course but they classic it just seemed very like I don't know that was just very cleaned up very easily and that there's more that there there had to be I feel like she I guess what I'm trying to say to you is I feel like she was not the only one involved in that that there were other people that might have been doing that stuff and that would add to the mystery and if not they should they have time to write it in there does that make sense yeah and then so we've got Isaac I don't think they basically pulled out at the very end the last like kind of battle like the thing that was working as like his heart but he's a zombie I think he can come back at any point something could happen to put him back together and I think he could still be a villain as well in season three I'm not necessarily sure even with Ophelia's messaging that she's gonna be the big bad I think it could still be I think he could come involved I think we they might want us to think that Tyler's bad at first but I really do think they might give Tyler a redemption arc
SPEAKER_00:yeah I think I think we've seen the last of Isaac I think that just like last season he's such a that's such a good character though I know you want to see that man on screen again but I think that just like last season like most of the most of that's resolved like the character the villain from last season Christina Ricci's character yes she was in this season but she wasn't really a factor in any meaningful way I
SPEAKER_01:think there's a lot that you can do going forward though with Isaac like there is not just because I like to be I think like the crazy scientist man is cute what murder I think that there's more stories they could do with it
SPEAKER_00:I do think that because the Nevermore Academy is apparently closed yes Wednesday is off chasing down Enid I think that there's probably a significant amount of next season that will not be at Nevermore like I think we will get there. They will open it back up. We will have a new principal who we can immediately suspect is terrible. Is it
SPEAKER_01:going to be the new Defense of the Dark Arts teacher? That seems like what they're going for. Everyone's bad that's going to come in now.
SPEAKER_00:I wouldn't be surprised if we get eight episodes next season and the mid-season break is when we get back to Nevermore.
SPEAKER_01:That's my take on it. I think it'll take a little bit to get Enid to come back. I don't think they're going to spend the whole season season with Enid as a wolf at all.
SPEAKER_00:And I think Wednesday is going to, I think they'll find Enid, get her transitioned back to a person. And then I think Wednesday we'll have to, we'll hold up her into the bargain and go hang out with grandma for a little bit and open up some doors with Ophelia there. Cause she's got to go to grandma's house at some point and accidentally run into Ophelia. Yeah. And so I think that we'll, all of that's going to happen. She
SPEAKER_01:already told grandma she wasn't going to stay the whole summer,
SPEAKER_00:but I know that she'll get there. Yeah. And so I think that you're going to see a lot of goofing about with that.
SPEAKER_01:Well, her and Morticia's issue. weren't just automatically resolved she's still like Ewan says like I don't fully like trust my mother on everything because that's just again that classic mother daughter dynamic some other things I liked about it the season I thought well we obviously have the iconic dance from season one I did think Enid and Agnes's little dance number was really good and the more I've watched it the more I like it it was entertaining it also was relevant to the plot because they needed Agnes to one of her power her power is you know becoming invisible and she was able to get the siren thing off of Steve Buscemi's he had like a medallion that protected him from being entranced by the siren it was just it was a fun scene I like fun scenes like that I like any time we get they sometimes use sort of like this animation style to tell like a story I like that they do that do you like that I like that they do that on Wednesday
SPEAKER_00:oh they they did that in part one where they went back and did like the claymation kind of like Nightmare Before Christmas kind of thing yeah I like that I'm in on that
SPEAKER_01:so I really enjoyed And then I did like how they Vecna-wond us, you could say, with the whole Thane. We find out the Thane reveal. Thane spelled backwards. Night. I liked it. I thought it was creative and funny. I
SPEAKER_00:don't get in on that stuff.
SPEAKER_01:I liked it. I enjoyed it. And then, of course, I knew that Thane wasn't going to stay on Isaac's body because Thane is such a part of the Addams family. And I loved the little scene where he's like, when he did you know I guess unstitch himself from Isaac and then yeah you're back in like the dorm room with Wednesday putting him in his little um kind of I guess crate little house and she's like of course you would come from an evil genius that's why we get alone so well or something like that I thought that was cute and just a little like basically I just really think we could have had a longer season we waited so long for season two and I felt like I want more more so it like yeah we've complained about certain aspects of it but i still enjoyed what i watched and i wanted more and i hate that we're probably gonna have to wait forever for season three especially with all these sizzles they have us on um i believe they said they're gonna start filming um these are just speculations maybe start filming early 2026 so the earliest we probably get it is 2027 and it's like at some point like jenna ortega obviously she's in like she's an adult woman so she does have a youthful look but like the eugene kid he's gonna have like a beard like a five o'clock shadow by the time like we didn't even recognize him at the beginning of season one i was like and i am glad that that's another part him and pugsley like he's being he realized like he was being a jerk and the reason why pugsley felt the need to you know create a zombie friend because eugene should have known what it feels like to be left out and should have been there for pugsley but he was i guess too cool for school um what do you think about the focus on the adams family as a whole there have been some complaints that just wanted to be about one Wednesday and then some people that like that the Adams is more more incorporated in
SPEAKER_00:I think that regardless of what you think about it next season is going to just be more of that because
SPEAKER_01:yeah I'm asking what you think of
SPEAKER_00:that because they're because with the family with the mother with grandma and Ophelia it's just gonna be more Adams family it doesn't bother me to be honest like I like it I like Gomez and I like Morticia I think they're funny
SPEAKER_01:yeah oh my favorite scene of the season was was when Principal Williams was saying goodbye for now to Wednesday Morticia and she kind of like goes out in a beam of light and it's like this emotional moment but then Gomez walks in he's like whoo it's bright outside the
SPEAKER_00:guy
SPEAKER_01:playing Gomez is hysterical
SPEAKER_00:yeah he's funny he's great
SPEAKER_01:all I remember him though that actor is from the Frasier episode that'll be$4 yeah Wednesday Wednesday I would rate this season a if I'm doing a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 7.5 or an 8. I'm much better grader than you, though.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, are we rating things for the first time suddenly, just randomly out of nowhere? Out
SPEAKER_01:of the blue. I don't want to hear it was fine,
SPEAKER_00:so I'm making you do numbers. I'm going to give it a 6. It was fine.
SPEAKER_01:Oh my gosh. Favorite character from Wednesday?
SPEAKER_00:Gomez.
SPEAKER_01:So Gomez. Alright, mine is Enid, obviously. Come on. But I really like Agnes like she really grew on me and I didn't like her at the beginning but yeah I'm excited for season three I'll probably forget about Wednesday until until probably they start rolling out you know hopefully more promos in a couple years that's the that's the downfall of these streaming shows is not only do you get shortened seasons the absolute glacial pace of waiting and I feel like it's not as bad when it's only a year between seasons but it seems like Netflix and again you could blame some of the Apple shows like Severance and stuff. They make you wait longer too. But Netflix shows in particular seem to make you wait longer. Whereas like a lot of the Hulu, Disney Plus shows and Amazon Prime shows give you like a year. Like the only reason why The Summer I Turned Pretty was two years was because of the strike. But I feel like Only Murders, we just had that a year ago.
SPEAKER_00:No, but I think I can boil that down a little bit better. It's not necessarily the show, like where it's at. Although Netflix does seem to be a really big outlier from everybody else but if it's the show
SPEAKER_01:Bobby Brown is married woman and has a
SPEAKER_00:baby the shows that are like big on effects and stuff like that they're taking longer than the one like only
SPEAKER_01:murderers take too long then
SPEAKER_00:do you know how much of that show that the set pieces that that's in that show is blue screen it's not actually you're not feeling
SPEAKER_01:like London don't they
SPEAKER_00:honey
SPEAKER_01:yes they do
SPEAKER_00:I know they do I'm not saying they don't do you know how much does London look like it did 200 years ago
SPEAKER_01:play that's no
SPEAKER_00:cool there's a lot of blue screen work going on in these shows that you don't know about I feel like they
SPEAKER_01:make us forever take forever
SPEAKER_00:for Bridgerton versus only murders in the building there's not much going on beyond what you're putting on screen
SPEAKER_01:and same thing then for the bear
SPEAKER_00:and the same thing for the bear that's why they can seem like they come out so quickly what
SPEAKER_01:about Percy Jackson then
SPEAKER_00:Percy Jackson came out
SPEAKER_01:last year no
SPEAKER_00:no it didn't come out last year you're wrong We watched it last year, but it did not come out last year. Wait
SPEAKER_01:a minute. No, it did. It came out last Christmas, right? Didn't I get the books last year? It came out around Christmas. Or am I thinking Christmas before the marathon? So that would have been 2023. What is time? Time is
SPEAKER_00:a thief. I don't know. We're really dragging our feet here, but I guess I have to check. 2023. A
SPEAKER_01:broken clock is twice a day.
SPEAKER_00:So just say it. I was.
SPEAKER_01:Correct. Enjoy it. All right. So moving on. Speaking of shows, a show that is crazy. out almost
SPEAKER_00:like it's a podcast about a TV show
SPEAKER_01:airing season two as we speak on I don't I still don't know is it Max is it HBO Max what is the app called I
SPEAKER_00:think it's back to HBO Max
SPEAKER_01:no they change it they change the logo all the time but we are currently watching Peacemaker season one even though season two is airing right now I think we're a good piece through season one I
SPEAKER_00:think we probably are two episodes from finished
SPEAKER_01:this is another James Gunn um to dc marvel the worst thing you ever did was let that man go because james gunn he made a great superman and this show is the music chef's kiss they totally did like a one direction song in one of the episodes but like it was a cover of a one direction song and like i like literally like stood like off the couch like in excitement like oh my gosh i know the song um but we i got i didn't watch the suicide squad and i don't think you did either but that's where peacemaker shows up And we got to see him. He's in the Superman movie for like a few minutes.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, he was like a Flash cameo on TV.
SPEAKER_01:And that's John Cena. The girl from Orange is the New Black is in it. She is Viola Davis' character, which I think it's something Walter Waller. Waller, yeah. Amanda Waller or something, I think. Yeah, something like that. Who was kind of like the person, I think, that assembled the Suicide Squad. Yes. And then you're like, there's this guy from Harry Potter that's in it. And I'm like... okay like this is Daniel's been begging me to watch the show for like two months and I finally agreed a couple weeks ago and then like so we're part way through and I'm like who is the Harry Potter guy vigilante and he does not one I'm used to the guy being British so two he dyed his hair from blonde to brunette and has these glasses on and I now that I like now that I can see it in the face I was like oh that's like the guy that tried to that liked Hermione and I feel like the sixth movie and that she like put a hex on to not get the role of keeper so Ron could get it and he was super annoying in the Harry Potter movies and then he's also was in Bridgerton season one is the prince okay so because every time like I've seen that actor I'm like because I remember that Harry Potter guy but suddenly you make a man a sociopath and a nerd and put some glasses on him I'm like hello and then as soon as I realized I was like no that can't be the Harry Potter guy that can't be I don't want to say too much about peacemaker yet because we haven't finished the season but it's gotten progressively better to me like i'm like now that i realize i have only murders to watch tonight i'm excited about that but i'm like oh man i'm gonna have to like put you know resume peacemaker like tomorrow or something like i'm to the point now where i'm ready to watch the next episodes
SPEAKER_00:well they got you because they got the team the team came together and i'm sure it'll ultimately crumble yeah and you like that of course we we can't talk about peacemaker without talking about the thing that makes Peacemaker the thing Peacemaker the opening credits it's a no skip
SPEAKER_01:yeah I don't think they relate to the show at all
SPEAKER_00:no
SPEAKER_01:but they're great and every time I
SPEAKER_00:see it for anybody who hasn't seen Peacemaker it's a dance number
SPEAKER_01:and from my understanding they there's a different one in season two
SPEAKER_00:yeah different song different dance number
SPEAKER_01:but yeah each each episode gets better I'm sure my heart's gonna be broken I can't get past the character die beard because he was a new girl He was like the homeless guy that lived outside of the apartment, and his voice just echoes in my brain. And then one of the guys that's on the team with him, he was the villain in...
SPEAKER_00:Guardians 3. Okay. That guy's a good actor. Yeah, he's very good. He's very good.
SPEAKER_01:And then James Gunn's wife
SPEAKER_00:is in it. It's a good show. It's funny. But it's got some serious moments, got some heartfelt moments. I'm enjoying it. I think, like I said, we just watched episode six of season one. I think... I haven't looked to see, but... From how things are escalating with the plot, I've got to imagine seven and eight is probably it for season one. It almost felt like
SPEAKER_01:a finale could have been in our previous one that we watched.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah. So I think then we'll be on season two. And that's weekly release? Weekly release, yeah. So there's a couple, I think three or four out so far.
SPEAKER_01:I like how I'm like, do a weekly release, more people will talk about it. Then when I realize that I might get caught up to a week release, I'm like, oh, no. All right, speaking of weekly release, let's return to our The Summer I Turn Vulcan series where we talk about Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 3 and the Summer I Turn Pretty Season 3. Since the finale is airing this week for Star Trek we will kick it off with Star Trek Strange New Worlds. I will let you go first because I have some beef and I am very upset with that
SPEAKER_00:show. Ladies and gentlemen we got her. We got her to be so emotionally I
SPEAKER_01:almost broke
SPEAKER_00:my glasses. So emotionally invested in a Star Trek episode that she made me pause it and she stormed out of the room, went to the kitchen, snacked on some food for a few minutes to cool off before we could finish the episode. Thank you. My job here is done. I
SPEAKER_01:hate you for that. I almost broke my glasses. I was so upset at the ending. They have me literally mad. My favorite character on the show tends to be Lon. She's been bugging me this season anyway, even though I did kind of like her in Spa cooking up. I just feel like her personality is just... some of the character growth that she showed in the previous season I feel like they've retracted that a little bit she really she and Chapel had that conversation and Chapel was just trying to be nice and not make it awkward that you know like hey like good for you and Spock Lon gave seriously like pick me not like I'm not like other girls energy and I can't stand it when women do that so I was already irritated by that but I'll say why I'm mad at Lon in a minute but I was so mad and then like also you know ladies that was an emotional week for me the build-up to a certain thing. So I already had that going for me. I cried. I was
SPEAKER_00:very upset. I'll tell everybody. I told you I was going to
SPEAKER_01:quit watching too. I might not tune in Thursday.
SPEAKER_00:Is this your favorite episode of Strange New Worlds?
SPEAKER_01:It's not my favorite. My favorite is still the musical episode from season two. But if I were to take a step back and rate what I think is the best episode, it would be this one.
SPEAKER_00:So this was a classic sci-fi trope episode where Ortega's our favorite pilot of the ship ends up stranded on a strange alien planet and oh my gosh she meets a Gorn who's been the big bad of Strange New Worlds and is also stranded there and it's the classic sci-fi trope of the alien and the human have to they're adversaries but they slowly as the episode goes along they learn to work together to the point where they form a friendship and And then as, you know, so they finally figure out a way to, you know, message the Enterprise. The Enterprise comes to pick them up. And when they come out of the place where they've been hiding, Ortegas comes out. The Gorn follows. Leon has just beamed in. She sees a Gorn and just pumps three shots of phaser right into the Gorn. No questions asked. Not
SPEAKER_01:even seeing Ortega smiling at her. Just completely knee-jerk reaction. And I know that Lon has a lot of... lot of childhood beef with the Gorn I get it but literally like she kind of proved like Ortega's brother that was doing that like documentary yeah I was trying to talk some of the bad side of Starfleet and like I think I believe Lon was one of the characters like sometimes you guys just shoot without asking like he like she just proved his point yeah she it made me so mad because like you could see that Ortega was smiling that she wasn't in danger and the other ones had their guns I think ready to shoot but Lon just like did it no no questions asked nothing no time to think and maybe she's like no i was doing my job the gorn are evil so i guess you could defend her that way but it broke my heart because y'all enemies to lovers it also works with friends anytime like like so yes the enemies to lovers is my favorite romance trope but i also love friendships also being formed from like some of my best my best friendships in real life started off with i thought you were the b word like a b-i-t-c-h like and when people say that to me too and then we end up like being best besties like some of my some of my top friendships have come from like I didn't like that person they didn't like me and then we ended up like oh like realizing like oh maybe we are that way but we don't have to be that way to each other and we can be fun and bond over it and one I was really excited to get an Erica focused episode because it's I knew we were going to get one this season
SPEAKER_00:like she's had prominent roles in other episodes but I think this might be her first like actual real Erica this was her
SPEAKER_01:first full-blown a plot Erica leads the episode and I knew it was coming I didn't know it would be this good and I feel like there was a scene where they were communicating and she's like it's gonna say like agree disagree and it was just funny like the banter back and forth and it really it got you to like understand that you know maybe like we were you know made to be like enemies but we have a lot more in common than we think and I knew realistically that we weren't gonna have a Gorn walking around the Enterprise but I thought maybe like the Gorn would like do a sacrifice or something or maybe they would probably and help her out like I was I was just devastated I was gutted I was like Erica at the end of that like just just strut
SPEAKER_00:yeah the the like I went going in as soon as I recognized the trope of the episode I knew that Gorn wasn't making it out of there but like you said I was willing to accept you know that heroic sacrifice but for to just get gunned down like that it was brutal it was really brutal and and I'm gonna say it right now I'm gonna be disappointed in the writers if they that's just forgotten. Yeah, I agree. Like that better come up as a contention point between Ortega's and Lon in future episodes. Maybe not necessarily the next episode because it's the season finale, but certainly into season four, that needs to come up as a point of contention.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because her conversation with Ahura at the end where she was like, well, the Gorn became my friend, but Lon is also my friend and I don't know how to feel about it. That to me is not enough to put closure on that. I would have liked Lon to at least have said she was sorry and she's probably going to be back to dancing with Spock again in the finale and there's going to be nothing in that because I would have liked Lon to be like hey I'm sorry for this and I don't and Lon probably isn't sorry she's probably not because she has a lot of trauma with the Gorn I don't know it really rubbed me the wrong way and Lon is a character who I like a lot but she doesn't have plot armor and I said back in season one that I mean I don't think they'll do this because I think too many people like her but I was like what if Lon does like die or go off and lead another ship and for some reason we just never hear from her again which I think would be weird I'm like what if she actually becomes because she has that her what is it grandpa is Khan
SPEAKER_00:like great great great many many generations many generations
SPEAKER_01:of the evilness what if she becomes a villain
SPEAKER_00:does a heel turn could
SPEAKER_01:I don't that'd be heartbreaking
SPEAKER_00:but it would be heartbreaking I don't think they're going to go that way but it wouldn't be completely out of left field either real quick before we go on to Summer I Turn Pretty so because we're releasing this episode right before like skin of our teeth before the finale of Strange New World Season 3 we have gotten some final pictures from the last episode and one of them is our favorite engineer Mr. Scott in a kilt so let me ask you he was in a kilt earlier this season for the supposed wedding that was actually a fake thing Scottish people don't wear kilts for things other than special occasions and everybody on the internet's going, well, he's attending a funeral. If it's a funeral, who's getting got?
SPEAKER_01:I really hope it's not Battelle. I feel like they are going to circle back to her because she has that Gorn DNA in there. But then the more I thought about it was like if they really wanted to, they could save that as a storyline and for, but then according to you, that's not who Pike ends up marrying. So I don't know. It could be his the lady from Kimmy Schmidt. What is her name with the curly
SPEAKER_00:hair yeah yeah the older carol kane
SPEAKER_01:carol kane's character that would disappoint me because i think so fun but she's clearly lived a long life
SPEAKER_00:yeah but they've also done that already in a like the room if you recall
SPEAKER_01:chapel's wedding
SPEAKER_00:maybe but if you were well so if you recall um the engineer from season one that we all liked sacrificed himself and i think that would be you know really sloppy to repeat the same thing um i don't think chapel and Corby ever get married I'm pretty sure when it's he's referred to as her ex-fiance in the original series when it comes up I don't think they ever actually you know went through with it I have to be honest right now my money is on Battelle is something's gonna happen and she's gonna bite it yeah she's gonna they're gonna have to put her down I think is what's gonna happen
SPEAKER_01:I hate that because I finally got to like the character that's
SPEAKER_00:but see that right there that tells you all you need to know as soon as they give like as soon as it's Especially a character like... Ortega's isn't every episode character, but Battelle is not. Yeah. So as soon as you get background on one of those kind of people...
SPEAKER_01:And we know we have the whole DNA situation with her.
SPEAKER_00:It's been a through point through the season. I think we're going to get resolution, but I don't think she's making it out of that resolution. How many
SPEAKER_01:more seasons do we have scheduled?
SPEAKER_00:Four is going to be a... We have a fourth season coming. They're filming now, which is going to be a normal 10-episode season. And then they're doing a fifth season, which I think they said is... it'll be six episodes
SPEAKER_01:they better not make me wait a whole year then between four and five
SPEAKER_00:um i don't think they're going to i think i think that probably if i had to guess i'd say if if they don't film four and five at the same time they'll there will be a very short break and then they'll film five i think they will have it in the can ready to go i
SPEAKER_01:hope so i think and we know we're getting kirk back for the finale
SPEAKER_00:yeah because paul wesley was scheduled to be in four episodes i mean it might be a wet
SPEAKER_01:if pike has to take like leave and kirk has to show up and take over the ship for a little bit because Pike's grieving no
SPEAKER_00:I don't think they're gonna do that
SPEAKER_01:you don't think they're gonna do that no I don't know it'll be it'll be I really hope that I think my biggest beef so far with Strange New Worlds is the premieres always suck and then like the other episodes are great like the premiere of this one flat the premiere of that so I'd rather not have like a major sizzler so I'd rather just kick things off with a great episode than have a premiere tying up the loose ends of the previous season because I think that works with some shows and to me it does not work very well with Star Trek like each season like I remember season two open and I was like I don't like season two as much and then the next episode was like okay this is good this one opened and I was like well that after the long you know wait and then it like and then again the next couple episodes were great so I don't know
SPEAKER_00:yeah I don't think we're in for another cliffhanger this year because I do think when they were filming this season up in the air as to whether they were getting another season. So they probably wrapped it up better than they did last.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I'll say my one hope, which I don't think is going to happen this season, but I do hope before the show closes the final curtain that we get a wink to McCoy because he's my favorite from the original series.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, if that happens, I'll probably know about it before we watch it Thursday.
SPEAKER_01:You didn't know about Scotty, right?
SPEAKER_00:Scotty's not a big three. Okay. So, like, McCoy. Obviously, we knew about Apollo. That's the reason why I watched. Yeah, perfect example. We knew about Kirk before season one even came out because they were filming season two. Because
SPEAKER_01:I was like, hey, I'm going to watch this show with you because Paul Wesley
SPEAKER_00:from the Vampire Diaries is in it. And I guarantee you the showrunners were wanting to keep that Kirk coming in at the last episode of season one a secret, but they weren't able to do it. So, again, I think if somebody had shown up on set.
SPEAKER_01:You can't fool the vampire. Empire Diaries fandom when we see our mans out there.
SPEAKER_00:We're going to take pictures and be like, what is this? I think we would have already heard rumblings about McCoy if he was going to show up. So I don't think that's going to happen this year. I say this season. Certainly next year. I
SPEAKER_01:said by the end, before it closes the curtain.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, no. See, I guarantee you the last shot of this show is going to be Kirk on the bridge with his original crew. I wasn't
SPEAKER_01:meaning this season, Daniel. I said before it causes it quits, closes the curtain, I better see McCoy. And if they do what you're saying, I will. All
SPEAKER_00:right, let's talk about belly in Paris.
SPEAKER_01:We both said all right at the same time. Okay, so for those of you that are psychopaths, you've already seen the second to last episode of The Summer I Turn Pretty. I, you know, have jobs and I need sleep. And it's not, as I'm recording this, it is a Tuesday. So it is not really Wednesday. So I'm going to talk about the episode where... as daniel said belly goes to paris i know this week we have um an episode 10 and then next week we'll have episode 11 which will be the series finale of the summer i turn pretty i don't know why everyone's shocked that this was the last season because there are only three books and we're already like you know at the point almost where the book ended all right so we have the fallout from the wedding we have belly decide she's just gonna pop off to paris like i'm just gonna get out of paris so it does remind me all the preview and everything for this episode remind of me of like Emily in Paris which also comes back in December anyway um Belly at the in that last scene saw Conrad before this episode started she sees him at the airport I don't know why the gate to California is right by the gate to Paris is that how it is at the Boston airport I don't know convenient I thought they might lock eyes they didn't she sees him and then thinks about going over and decides you know what no and I was like as much as I would have liked them to look at each other I was like, good girl. Go get on that plane. I do have to address Belly's horrendous travel outfit that she wore basically the entire day after she arrived in Paris. Who travels in tight jeans? That's diabolical. So uncomfortable. Would you travel in tight jeans and then walk around with it all day in Paris? That's a long flight to be in skin-tight jeans.
SPEAKER_00:I barely wear jeans anymore. I can't do it. It's too much. They're rough. They're hard. As Marvin says, they're hard pants. Daddy has the hard pants on. He knows that if I put the hard pants on, I'm leaving the house, and he hates it. And I hate it, to be honest. I rarely go out in jeans anymore. They're terrible. I
SPEAKER_01:don't even think I would wear jeans on a short flight, let alone a 14-hour flight to Paris. So I had to get that off my chest. But ultimately, I was glad that Belly didn't lock eyes with Conrad. The people that thought that Conrad was going to see her and that he was going to go with her, you guys are insane. Listen, I am a Bonrad stand. Belly and Conrad they're meant to be. I also like Conrad but my girl was just about ready to walk down the aisle and going ahead even with Conrad's confession of love she was like doubling down on it like like Frasier like I love her. Like she was going to get married. I feel like if Jeremiah hadn't been like you can't marry me to erase him I think Belly might have just gone through with it. Do I think the marriage would have lasted? No. But Belly was in that like little almost petulant child little girl mode like stomping my foot so we need some time and I'm seeing like women like my age being like why weren't they together already oh my god not only was she about to get married but the whole like brother situation of it all like Belly doesn't know who she is outside like she was still in high school when she chose Jeremiah they got together they've been together all of college it seemed to me like once she had her injury couldn't play volleyball she's just been kind of not even she had like one friend she made in college like she doesn't know herself she needs to learn who she is outside of these boys so I think it's good and in the book she does that too she goes I think it's Spain not Paris in the book but she goes off and she even dates other people she has her own kind of like life for a little bit and I think in order to have that end game mean something that's what needed to happen so a lot of people were very critical of this episode and I think that some of you guys need to take a breath and relax to me it really served its purpose like there was like we just we this could have been an email we watched belly just chase her bag around Paris the whole time because so she does get to Paris she goes there to go to the program that she had been accepted to but originally said no to because she was going to stay behind with Jeremiah but they said they still had a spot for her well it turns out she goes there and he's like oh I looked at the wrong spreadsheet we don't have a spot for you and I'm like are you serious so she calls Laurel her mother Laurel don't even know I thought Laurel did know that belly was going off to Paris in the laurels like you're aware she's like okay we'll book a flight home i don't care she's like go get yourself a coffee i don't care how much it costs just come home and we'll we'll deal with this later so um belly goes to a coffee shop like a moron she stands up to go pay for something and leaves her um backpack on the chair and she's got her you know minuscule teeny tiny little ring from jeremiah in there but also important stuff like her passport like she was freaking out about the rain i'm like what about your wallet your money your passport oh my god um So but she had the air tags that Stephen got her for her wedding shower that he acted like a last minute gift. Those come in handy. So she sees where her bag is and she does chase her bag around the city. I thought it was a very like a nice metaphor like Belly is finding herself in Paris. I see what you're doing there Jenny Han. That is the writer of the books and also the producer of the show and I like I thought it was well done. I also thought the timing was really funny. Really funny. Like all the TikToks and memes have come out about like how you can't pickpocket americans because we'll fight back so belly finds like her bag and the guy like tries to mouth off and she's just like swings her carry-on because she still had that like hits him and it starts like kicking him and is like give me back my bag and i thought that was great i feel like in I know we like Conrad, guys, but Belly is the center of the books. She is, it's her story. It's not the boy's story. And that is the most personality that I have seen from Belly in one episode than I have three entire seasons of the show where she was on her own. And I thought it was very essential to her growth. And a lot of stuff happened. So those of you guys that are just like wanting the Bond writing in game, be patient, my friends, because I think we're going to get it. I was having sympathy for Jeremiah during the wedding episode that went out the window in just a whoosh he was awful awful awful like the song man child was written for Jeremiah not Jeremiah was a bullfrog like man Sabrina Carpenter man child might as well be written for this man he was his behavior was terrible when he and belly do finally have a conversation at the end he was basically like we'll just come home like we can be together I'm like what you guys were so mature and she's like no I can't come home she's like I think I'm gonna stay I don't know who I am anymore we need to find ourselves as people and he was like well don't effing call me ever again and I was like oh I know you did not speak to her like that uh-uh uh-uh and then of course at the end it showed that a lot of and the way he spoke to Laurel oh my gosh awful because she went to go comfort him because you know keep in mind he grew up with Laurel I was almost like being a second mother to him and he was just he was just a menace a terrible like I get why he doesn't want to be around Conrad earn beef your brother trying to take a lady like I get it even though technically you knew that she still loved Conrad when you decide to pursue her in season two but whatever I was willing to let that go but miserable and I haven't dated men like that in my or I guess boys like that in my past that behaved the same way Jeremiah did at least they were like it's still in high school Jeremiah's like 21 years old or something acting like that just terrible so if they're gonna try to they're gonna have to do a little bit better to make me sympathize with Jeremiah and care about him going forward I did like the scene at the end with Adam that is Conrad and Jeremiah's dad who who finally decided to, you know, maybe I should be a parent and father my kids and, you know, actually, you know, talk to them and be of an emotional support because Conrad and Adam, he's like, oh, so did you find Jeremiah yet? It was, he's like, he says that he caught off the wedding, but like, you know, we all know he did something to screw it up and Conrad's actually like, no, it's kind of my fault. And Adam's like, so he tells Adam about like, he's like, I told Belly I loved her and Adam's face was hilarious it was like I felt like Adam's like all of us like if you were like a real person understanding like what is going on with my kids and then you find out that all this time Adam and Conrad have more in common than what you would think I think that Jeremiah is a lot like Adam and some of the bad qualities but the way Conrad deals with conflict is so Adam coded and I think Conrad realizing that was a wake up call and I felt like he and his dad had an understanding and then Adam finally goes over to the beach house and actually hugs his son not saying Jeremiah you know I don't like him I can't stand him but he's he is going through it and finally they hug and Jeremiah breaks down crying and it was a good scene just to see Adam finally be a parent and also Laurel clocked Adam on his crap I like that and then they kind of had a laugh about it so that was a positive takeaway and also Steven and Taylor my favorite ship of the show I'm putting them over Bond right at this point finally got back together I'm worried they might have gotten back together too soon if we have two episodes left but i'm hoping jenny's gonna do that ship justice and it was a really good scene between the two of them i feel like they both had a lot of growing up to do and they have put in the work they're not perfect yet but i think they they match and i like them and i enjoyed their scene so if anything getting my staler love scene back on was good um what do i think going forward well i think it's gonna play out a lot like kind of the book did i think you're gonna see some more time has passed and that belly will i think she's gonna We already know that guy Benito, we saw him because she meets these group of people in Paris that helped her get her bag back. So I think she will date him. I think that people need to settle in because I think the next episode is going to have some, you know, belly in Paris, more about her with her friends. I think that we are going to get the letters from Conrad in the book. He writes her letters. She doesn't write him back for quite some time. I think we're going to get that. My one fear that I have is that belly and Conrad are not going to get back together until the last two seconds of the finale and that's going to tick me off because basically the book felt so abrupt it was like oh we're back together we see Jeremiah like at the wedding he has a date he waves at us and I not only that I would like to see Jeremiah and Conrad work to repair the relationship and actually be brothers it doesn't have to be perfect but I would like to see some communication and I would like to see a little bit of build up there's been some leaks with the actors in Paris but there was also a leak with Jeremiah showing up in Paris that we think was put in there to throw us off so I don't know if the the timing of the Conrad and Belly leaks a sus makes me think that they're extras on sets that know what to do to promote the show because I'm like why did you guys sit on this footage and you just now released it of them filming when we've seen the Jeremiah Belly stuff for like a year please I see what you're doing producers of this show I respect it but sus they're saying that the ending is not going to be a neat little bow I do not think and I'm doubling down on this if I'm wrong I'll put the clown makeup on I don't think Belly's going to choose herself and that we're not going to get any resolution I think ultimately I even think that if Conrad does come visit her that maybe they'll have some fun together and she'll be like you know what I'm not ready to get back together yet and then I think we'll I think the end will still be them together I don't I don't see an end to this show without her and Conrad being an end game of some type do I think they'll get married maybe not I mean they do get married at the end of the book I think it might just be them being together living together time jump if you will um jenny said that she doesn't want endings with a neat bow but she wants hope at the end and i feel like that's how you give fans hope so um yeah that's my predictions going forward i am very excited to see how this show will wrap up if they don't end up being in game i will be mad though i'll tell you that right now
SPEAKER_00:yeah you'll probably break the tv if i if any indication
SPEAKER_01:I'm still mad about another show that I still talk about. I had the worst finale ever. Don't screw me on this. And don't be like, oh, you always have the books to read. No, I want the show.
SPEAKER_00:Lightning Round. Last week we talked about the first half of the finale of Bachelor in Paradise. And then we
SPEAKER_01:forgot we were in the middle of an episode and recorded a podcast.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so wrap it up real quick. What happened?
SPEAKER_01:Okay, so they had basically the shocker was the money. You can choose. Okay, so Kat and Dale had some drama. They had like people come back and they could vote for Alex and Andrew won so they knew they were going to the finale and they could vote for another couple to join them so it was between Kat and Dale and excuse me not Alex and Jess Alex and Andrew and then they could vote either Kat and Dale or Spencer and Jess and like Sean the Parliament of Paradise guy and Alicia who is giving obsessed with Dale by the way like Dale Dale like I say that in the stepbrothers voice you know like Dale um decide they're like oh Kat had a boyfriend like the whole time before she came here and tried to bring like all these receipts that like Kat was like yeah I was like date like casually dating someone before I came on the show your point Dale didn't even care but it was it was really weird and I felt like they were trying to like have like we owned you moment and no one cared about it um they still didn't get voted in but I mean like Spencer and Jess if I'm gonna pick a solid couple they were the solid couple so the whole the twist with the money was though like oh you can choose the money or you can choose your person they all chose each other and then they still ended up getting money anyway at the end i would have like told you i would have been like listen let's choose the money and then just go date the next day does that make me a villain or does that make me smart or would abc have some kind of clause in the contract that they if i if they knew i was together with the person that they would take my money away i don't know whatever um only one engagement Spencer and Jess. Yes, Spencer and Jess. A lot of the couples are still together. Kat and Dale, shockingly, still together. They seem like they're doing pretty well. I think they're probably more casual than not casual that they date other people, but I don't see them running down the aisle anytime soon, which is probably for the best. I watched them on a podcast. They seem fine. Spencer and Jess, the only couple that did get engaged, I think they'll be okay. Alex And Andrew, still together. Jeremy and Bailey, against all odds, are still together. So this show, we'll see how long these couples last. I did not like the format of this season. I missed the Krusty Beach. I liked the old format. I thought the money thing, I would have rather made it almost like a Survivor-like thing if we're going to do the whole, like the money twist was just dumb. I could tell they were trying to get ideas from other shows and put them into one. But I'll definitely say with a lot of Bachelor in Paradises I think because you spend more time with the person, the success rate can be higher on this show. And I think maybe we had a lot more couples still together because there wasn't the pressure of engagement. Realistically, even on the main show, it's so unrealistic that you get engaged. You've known this person for two weeks. Because even though we watch these reality shows over a six-week, seven, eight-week period, they're only on that beach together for two weeks. So would you agree with me that, like, not having the emphasis on engagement was actually good for the show? Probably. If I picked one
SPEAKER_00:positive thing, that's it. I think it's multiple things. I think that it's the not focus on engagement. I think we saw them in each other's rooms on multiple occasions, so it seemed like they were able to hang out. No more boom-boom. They were able to hang out more together off. Like, they were never off camera, but less focused camera time, which is helpful. So I think a lot of those factors played into that.
SPEAKER_01:I've been watching. watching the they didn't do a reunion this is where you know the show's kind of busted they didn't do an actual reunion show that like abc aired they did it on the bachelor happy hour podcast which you could say oh no it's promoting the podcast i don't think they thought enough people were going to tune into it so i've been listening to that um i'm about halfway through so i'll finish that later um bachelor in paradise is usually my favorite but this season i would give since we are going to rate things a scale of one to ten i would give it a 2.5 and i'm only giving it at 2.5 because the addition of the Goldens they were fun I wish we would have seen if we had had more focus on the Goldens I think I would have liked it more but I'm still not going to watch the Golden Bachelor because that guy seems stupid and he said he didn't want anyone under like age 60 my dude you're old rate it Daniel
SPEAKER_00:1.347 slowest slowest lightning round of all time hey listen so speaking of competition shows Dancing with the Stars starts next week. Next week. Very quickly, one word answer. Who is your frontrunner?
SPEAKER_01:Who is my frontrunner? It is Whitney Levitt of the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and Mark Ballas, legendary choreographer, is coming back. That is my frontrunner. Who is your frontrunner?
SPEAKER_00:I'm picking the Australia guy. I don't remember his name. I don't care. Robert Irwin
SPEAKER_01:and Whitney. His sister won, Bendy.
SPEAKER_00:Okay, there you go. See, it's in the blood.
SPEAKER_01:I also think that Riley... and Scott from Pentatonix.
SPEAKER_00:I said one word answers.
SPEAKER_01:Sorry, I'm giving more than a one word answer. It was never, this is like Charles Barkley. He's like, I'm saying three words and he says like ten words. I think, I just have got to say that I think Riley and Scott will also be a good pairing because I think the Pentatonix guy is going to dance a lot better than people think. But next week we'll talk about the whole cast, what we think about it because it's not going to be a Monday night, it's going to be on Tuesday night so that can get you all excited now if for some reason we peace out and don't do a podcast next week because we don't know what's going on we don't know what day it is we don't know if we might be back we might not be back but eventually we'll talk about our thoughts on well all the couples
SPEAKER_00:and before we go we just have to again we have to make a small correctional error on our postings so I didn't do it as is tradition occasionally hope forgets things that she shouldn't do and she did So she allowed me last week's episode where she said, hey, can you take this picture? And she didn't make the mistake of having me look up the picture. She gave me the picture. And she said, can you post this on Instagram? All he has to do is copy the episode description. All I have to do is use the picture that is provided, copy the episode description from the podcast backend, put some music on it, and add hashtags.
SPEAKER_01:Maybe a couple hashtags. You don't even have to do hashtags if you don't want to.
SPEAKER_00:So as you recall, we did talk about K-pop demon hunters last week. And so I thought, well, that one's, you know, the youths. They like that one. I probably should try and find a nice... Hashtag. And I, you know, anybody who posts on social knows as you hit the hashtag button and then you start typing, it starts suggesting stuff to you. Never do the suggested ones. And apparently I learned you do not do the suggestion ones because instead of K-pop demon hunters, one letter, one letter off. I have dyslexia. I have dyslexia. It's one letter. It's one letter.
SPEAKER_01:What'd you put Daniel?
SPEAKER_00:K-pop semen hunters.
SPEAKER_01:And That's a franchise we're not going to talk about ever on this podcast.
